Q.> Tell us something about your first Hindi movie?
A> I am working in a film ‘Tehzeeb’ by Khalid Mohammed which has star cast of Arjun Rampal, Urmila Matondkar, Shabana Azmi, Diya Mirza, Rishi Kapoor. The cinematography is by Santosh Sivan and music by A.R Rahman. The shooting schedules are already on and it is great working with such a talented team.
Q> What is your role in the movie?
A> I am playing a role of a publishing editor from New York and my journey to Mumbai and coping with the city life and situations.Although I am in a guest apperance, I still feel it is a powerful character role which will leave a mark on the audience.
Q>What made you enter Bollywood after such a long gap?
A> After the Miss World pageant in 1997,I got many ‘lovey-dovey’ type of offers in Bollywood which never interested me. I always wanted to do substantial and meaningful roles. I was busy doing movies in the west all this while, but things change and perspectives change. As I did now want to limit myself to west,I accepted this role “
Q>Who are your role models in the film industry?
A>My role models are Smita Patil, Zeenat Aman, Shabana Azmi and currently Tabu and Nandita Das.And I look forward to work in movies of Ram Gopal Varma and Shyam Benegal.
Q>What type of roles would you prefer doing in future?
A>I want to do meaningful roles and certainly not for the usual Bollywood stuff. As such I am already an established actress in the west,so I can always pick and choose roles that will satisfy me as a person and as an actress.
