BROKEN WINDOW KILLS MODEL

Preetinder Kaur Nagi, a 25-year model and fashion designer was killed by a falling window frame at the poolside of New Oberoi Hotel, Nariman Point yesterday (15th June) evening. The incident took place at about 6 pm, wherein a window frame from the 25th floor of the hotel apparently came loose and suddenly fell on her. She was immediately taken to JJ hospital but was declared dead before admission.
Jaswinder Singh Sethi, Preetinder ‘s brother-in-law said,“Preetinder, the youngest of the three sisters was the sole bread earner of her family. She had also done modeling in few advertisements and seriously pursuing a career in fashion designing. She was residing with her sister in Andheri, while her parents lived in Lonavala.Lately,we were also looking for a bridegroom for her.”
Sadhashiv Patil, Senior Police Inspector, Marine Drive Police Station told The Asian Age, “As per our investigations, she was not a resident in-house guest in the hotel and had come to meet somebody. It seems she was about to go for a swim, as she was wearing a swimming costume under her dress. She could not sustain serious head injuries and died on the spot. We have registered a case under the negligence act against the hotel authorities .The authorities should have been careful and double-checked the loose hinges before the monsoons. Further investigations are going on.”
Family sources allege that immediate first-aid was not provided to Preetinder after the mishap and they will soon be a negligence case against the hotel authorities.S.S Ahuja, Preetinder’s acquaintance said, “She was a computer literate and a bright child. She was scheduled to soon visit London as she had bagged a large order to design garments for a company .It is an irreparable loss to the family and extreme moment of truth. The hotel authorities seem to highly bothered and have stated that such mishaps keep on happening.”
Priya D’Cunha, Marketing Executive, New Oberoi Hotel said, ”The hotel is more than willing to take the responsibility of this accident. Such a thing has never happened before in the hotel. But the incident should be taken in light of an accident and nobody can anticipate such accidents. Rains or no rains; all the fire exits, windows and other things are checked throughout the year. As soon as accident occurred, we immediately called the police and they inturn intimated the ambulance. We are in constant touch with police for periodic updates. All the formalities within the framework of law will be abided by the hotel.”
