GIRLS SHOULD STAY ALERT ON DATES

In a shocking incident of date rape, Tina, (name changed) - a 18 year old student was raped by her boyfriend Imran on Valentine’s Day at Khar.Tina was physically abused by Imran for two days and later Imran’s group of friends raped her for almost a week. Couple of weeks ago the police nabbed the four accused.
The incident has sprung strong reaction from City psychiatrist and social activists on this shocking issue of date rape. They feel that dates have largely become a part of most teenagers of the city. However they also caution that girls need to be more alert on a date to avoid being sexually exploited.
Mr.Shreekanth Joshi, psychiatrist informs that statistics reveal most rapes occur by the people known to the victim. He says, “Dates are an accepted part of most teenagers in the city. But there is always a dangerous line of decency and trust between the boy and the girl. There is bound to be sexual attraction but. girls should discourage sexual advances by their boyfriend on dates.”
Sulochana Kapil,a social activist feels that it is parent’s prerogative to know that where abouts about their children. Sulochana says, “Under the modernization, show offs and broad outlook, parents often tend to trust their children blindly. When children grow up,it becomes vital for parents to monitor them at every step. A girl’s dignity is in her own hands, being modern in mental caibre is more necessary than physical.appearence Most dates are for sexual pleasures. Thus it becomes important for a girl to be aware that she is not being physically abused under the pretext of date and magical three words ‘I love you’.”
Dr.Geeta J, a clinical psychologist counseling at psychiatry department, Savarkar Municipal General Hospital,Mulund (east) receives many cases of teenage girls who have been sexually exploited or drawn into physical relationships with their boyfriends.” The symptoms of such females are depression, bored, disinterested with life. There is a huge difference between a girl wants to express love and the way she expects her counterpart to express love. Basically in a relationship males are more body oriented. Females are rather mind oriented and they want to be cuddled and more emotionally attached in a relationship. Many times, she gives in for a physical relationship on a date just on the fear of losing the guy .”

Before going on date, accumulate maximum details about the person
Use your brain rather than heart and emotions
Dress decently. Provocative dresses induce sexual advances.
Know the person well before intimacy takes place.
Try to meet your partner in groups rather than one to one
Don’t
Do not be fooled only by smart talking, flashy appearance of the partner
Avoid meeting a new person in a secluded place
Do not let partner advance physically in first few dates
Avoid meeting at late nights, isolated cars and places
Do not drink from your partner’s glass /dish (It may contain some intoxication)
Brinda Upadhdhay, a lecturer residing at Andheri says, “Date rapes are pretty common. To avoid such cases, A girl has to be her more mental and emotional guard.There is no specific age for going on dates as long as you can handle it mentally and strongly.It is necessary for the girl to make things clear in beginning of relationship rather than become a victim later.Going on a date to movies or cafes are a good option.Closed vehicles are most dangerous and must be avoided completely.
